Cycleway flooded for 2 weeks in this location since HIWWT did works in Autumn 2024

Reported via mobile in the Footway Flood Non Hazardous category anonymously at 16:46, Friday 13 February 2026

Sent to Island Roads 7 minutes later. Enquiry ref: 16309731.

This section of cycleway never has flooded before. It flooded in winter 2024 for first time after HIWWT flooded Mead to South. They are keeping water level at an unnatural high level and so not escaping back to north as traditionally which is normally flooded. They have basically messed up the natural function of the floodplain. This has ruined a public asset which has been impassable for 2 weeks. This is not exceptional weather of rainfall. Much more rainfall has been experienced since 2012 when this section of cyclceway was restored by the highways at great cost. HIWWT are demonstrating a complete disregard towards the public and destroying a public asset and sustainable route which is now useless. Further towards the water works at Golflinks road which is normally flooded has receded just further showing they are keeping this section unreasonably flooded. It is now starting to subside and destroying highways work done in 2012 and providing this public amenity.
