Spraying weedkiller in Kings Bay Road, Ventnor

I am not sure if you can help me, but I need to find out who to contact regarding the spraying of weedkiller along our pavements and kerbside.

I live in Kings Bay Road, Ventnor, and this morning, two men came down on quad bikes and proceeded to spray weedkiller all along the base of the wall and the kerbside. Lots of people walk their children and dogs down our road. We also we have an abundance of wall lizards here. Along with our neighbours, we are trying to provide an environment that is both nice to enjoy but also to feed and support the insects and birds and reptiles. As soon as the 'weeds' - poppies, marigolds, daisies, dandelions, etc. are over along the kerbside, we hand pick the weeds and tidy it up.

The unnecessary use of chemicals is both dangerous and totally unacceptable! As s resident in the road i am concerned that the use of these chemicals can be potentially be harmful to my health, that of my family and the wider community.

We have asked the guys not to spray in previous years and have protested about this alingside On the Wight, and after local pressure, it was decided not to continue with the spraying.

With the current need for cost cutting, surely this could be an easy saving?! Not only financially but definitely for the sake of our local environment and our health.

I contacted Ventnor Town Council but they say that although the use of Glyphosates was banned by them in June 2022, the kerbsides were under the remit of Island Roads. They will be forwarding the email I sent to them plus the minutes of the council meeting discussing this issue in 2022.

I am furious that once again this has been done.
