Risk to pedestrians crossing road
Reported via desktop in the Veg Impeding FW/CW category anonymously at 20:32, Sunday 16 June 2024
Sent to Island Roads 14 hours, 10 minutes later. Enquiry ref: 16270099.
Walking uphill, the pavement on the right hand side stops on the blind corner adjacent to the entrance to Whitwell Road. In order to walk safely a pedestrian has to cross at this point. There are no mirrors, so he/she has to rely solely on listening to try to hear if any vehicles are coming. If a person is hard of hearing, if it's windy, if cars are electric, or if there are other cars driving by, a person cannot possibly hear if a vehicle is coming or not. This problem is likely to be made much worse when the Graben is closed on 24 June, and Whitwell Rd is the only way out of Ventnor. Also, (and I know this is a separate issue) the hapless pedestrian, having safely reached the opposite pavement, is likely to be immediately hit in the eye by an overhanging bramble, or pushed off the pavement by a protruding hedge. Help!
