Drainage tunnel blocks as entrance grate is missing.

Reported via desktop in the Carriageway Flood NonHazard category anonymously at 15:31, Thu 24 November 2022

Sent to Island Roads 46 minutes later. Enquiry ref: 16231344.

You recently attended a flooding incident outside 2f Sibden Rd Shanklin, due to a blocked drainage tunnel. The next day it flooded the road and a premise as the blockage had either not been removed properly or had got blocked again and the fire service attended. They removed some large pieces of debris via a inspection hatch outside 2f and since then it's been flowing okay. There is a grating missing at the entrance to the tunnel located at the side of 2f Sibden which allows large pieces of debris to flow in and block up the flow under the inspection hatch where one tunnel ends and two tunnels start. As the last flood damaged property and a dwelling due to this very reason I would like to enquire whether it would be possible to have the grate replaced. That way we would see the debris caught before it enters the tunnel and could remove it before it becomes an issue. I look forward to your reply. Kind regards, Martin Lapham.
