Risk of severe injury or death crossing the road

Reported via mobile in the Rough/Uneven or Surface Issue category by Penelope Snook at 15:07, Tuesday 22 November 2022

Sent to Island Roads 8 minutes later. Enquiry ref: 16231177.

Three times in the last week I risked being the cause of a major traffic crash and injury or death to myself trying to cross the road from the pavement to the footpath on Embankment Road in Bembridge. On the third occasion I froze in fear as a car stopped within inches of me on that blind corner. I had to endure intimidating and extremely unpleasant and aggressive verbal abuse. The driver bellowing he was doing the speed limit which I'm sure he was but not allowing for the blind corner. In my defense , I stopped , listened and started to run when I heard no traffic but I still wasn't quick enough. It seems to me that a simple and cheap solution would be to erect a large convex mirror on the opposite side of the road to give pedestrians a fighting chance. Effective with low cost , it is essential that this could implemented immediately before someone , particularly a child is killed not least because it is an area which has many holiday visitors to the houseboats. Thankyou.
